There are certainly some exciting features included with version 3.1 of ReFS found in Windows Server 2016. There are definitely cases to stick with NTFS and ones where we would certainly want to use ReFS. However, we want to think about use cases when it comes to ReFS and when to use Windows Server 2016 ReFs specifically.

With ReFS being the next generation file system, one would think we would want to use ReFS everywhere. ReFS literally stands for “Resilient File System” as it touts much better built-in resilience than other file systems such as the long standing default NTFS file system.

ReFS version 3.1 contains many new enhancements compared to older versions of ReFS that were found in Windows Server 2012. Windows Server 2016 has many exciting enhancements, however, one that many will want to take advantage of is the new version of the ReFS file system that is baked into Windows Server 2016.
